Sajak, who has hosted Wheel of Fortune for more than 39 years since 1983, made an unprecedented boo boo when he opened the grand prize card before he was supposed to. Typically, he would open the card which held the grand prize at the end of the bonus round. Not at the beginning. But right after he took a quick look at the card, Sajak recognized his mistake quickly and said, “I’m not sure why I did that. Then he laughed adding, “I know what she’s playing for, and you don’t….It must be Friday.” Watch it all happen in the clip below. At the end of the show when the credits were rolling Vanna White observed that a mistake like that had not happened before. “I don’t think you’ve ever done that,” she said. Sajak then explained that “there’s a first time for every mistake.” He went on to reminisce how he’s made a few. Sajak shared how years ago the puzzle was “quarter back” and the category was “person” and he said the category was “quarter back, which was too big a clue,” he joked. “Even I’m not perfect,” said Sajak whose work on the show has earned him three Emmys, a People’s Choice Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I know that’s shocking news.”
